Common Core Skills Training For Home-Based Child-Carers
To register on any of the Ofsted Registers, nannies and childminders need to meet certain requirements, one of which is undertaking training in the common core skills.
Additionally experienced nannies who have already registered with Ofsted may find it beneficial to update their knowledge on the 6 common core skills subjects to ensure they are fully up to date and ready for inspection.
Additionally completing common core skills training means the families you work with, will not only feel confident that you are taking your career and responsibilities seriously, but they may also be able to benefit by receiving tax credits.
The six common core skills are:
• communication & engagement
• child development
• safeguarding the child
• supporting transitions
• multi-agency working
• information sharing
MNT Training offers two courses in the common core skills, both of which cover the requirements for registration with Ofsted.
One of these courses is the:
OCN Common Core Skills-Distance Learning Course
This course is studied at home using a self study pack, so is suitable for nannies or childminders living anywhere in the UK.
A study pack is sent to you at home, along with the assessments that need to be completed within four weeks of starting the course. Everyone who passes the assessments receives their common core skills qualification.

Safe Fun in the Sun
After our wet and windy winter, our children will all be ready to get out and enjoy some good weather. We all love our children to be healthy and the sun is important not only because it makes us feel good but it is also our primary source of vitamin D, which helps us absorb calcium to develop healthy bones.
However, any natural protection that our bodies have fades during winter, so we have to be particularly careful in spring when the skin has little natural protection. UV radiation is at its most intense between April and September, even in the UK, don't be fooled into thinking that you don't need to take sun protective measures in the Spring. How often do you see lobster red people walking around after that first weekend of sun in the year! So don't get caught out and have your sunhats, sun cream and UV clothing at the ready.
